Send a survey to your company or your team

A survey is a short, one-off questionnaire sent to the people you choose and open for a set period. Use it to collect opinions on a specific topic, outside your regular check-ins.

Who can send a survey

  • Admins: to the whole company, to teams, or to people matching HR criteria.

  • Managers: to the teams they manage, if an admin has allowed it (see Roles & permissions). A manager's survey is always named.

Create a survey

Go to Company > Surveys (admins) or My surveys in your profile menu (managers), then click Create.

Give your survey a title.

Add up to 5 questions. Choose the type for each:

  • Scale (1–5), with optional labels for both ends

  • Single choice

  • Free text Mark each question required or optional, and drag to reorder.

Choose the audience: the whole company, specific teams, or HR criteria (department, division, job title, tenure and directory attributes). A live preview shows how many people will be asked and how many invited people haven't joined Popwork yet. They are not notified until they join.

Choose who reads the answers: HR or managers.

Choose anonymous or named. Anonymous is only available when HR reads the answers. If managers read them, the survey is always named. An anonymous survey needs at least 3 recipients.

Set the opening date, closing date and reminder.

Check the "Who sees what" panel, which shows the privacy notice each recipient will read, then schedule the survey. You can also save it as a draft.

Notifications
Recipients are notified when the survey opens and reminded if they haven't answered, by email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, push and in-app, following their notification preferences (new Surveys category).

Notifications always say whether answers are anonymous.

Manage your surveys
The survey list has one row of filters: search by title, status (open, scheduled, draft, finished, cancelled), and sender (for HR). From each survey you can see its results, edit or resume a draft, change the closing date, close it now, cancel a scheduled one, duplicate it, or delete a draft.

If an anonymous survey is below the minimum number of recipients when it opens, it is cancelled rather than opened.
